I want to talk briefly about the essays and my thoughts about how grading and evaluation differs in the AP classes.
Then, I want to look at Learning to Read and have small groups characterize certain rhetorical strategies and their effectiveness.
We might try looking/listening to two radio pieces: one is a radio ad from Rudolph Guliani and the other is a writer explaining why and how he’s teaching rhetoric to his son.
Also, I want to give you time to edit each others Personal Essays. The three major criteria I’ll be looking at are: use of specific detail, strong profound reflection, and a sense of voice/personality in the writing.
We’ll look at the laptop ads and evaluate those for effectiveness and then finish reading chapter 1 and use the stasis questions to evaluate the laptop damage issue.
